Hey everyone! I feel like such a newbie but here it goes anyway, haha.

I’m looking for some advice on a certain type of game I like playing. I’m sure there are technical terms for the features I like but I’m not quite sure of them. Anyway, the games I’ve played so far and that I have fell in love with are:
-Syberia II
-Journey: To the center of the earth

I bought Return to Mysterious Island yesterday and realized it was played in “first person” with 360 degree rotation, when I’m used to (and prefer) where you see the character and play like that. Is this considered 3rd person?

Anyway, I’m looking for pc games that have:
-Point and click
-3rd person instead of 1st person (if you played any of the ones mentioned before, you’ll -know what I mean)
-Beautifully created graphics
-A good storyline

Anyone know of any games that have these features and are similar to the ones I’ve played? I was looking into:
-Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
-The Secret Files: Tunguska
-Myst IV Revelation
-Myst V End of Ages
-Amerzone (but it may be in first person, I can’t tell)
-Realms of Illusion

Have you played these games? Do you like them? Any other games you would recommend. Any input at all would help, haha.

Thank you for all your help! :DD

Supreme Commander... Mar. 1st, 2007 @ 07:47 am
OK, I've just noticed all sorts of whinging (especially from Australian GamePro who bagged the game on performance issues I haven't even seen) via metacritic about poor performance in SupCom.

Is anybody else who reads this playing it? What spec hardware are you using with which graphics card?

I've been playing it on my Macbook Pro (2.16Ghz Core Duo, not Core 2) which gives really solid performance on Low fidelity, but really barfs if you turn the fidelity setting itself up any. (You can turn up texture detail without major impact I've discovered). I also found it played acceptibly in campaign on my poor little AthlonXP until the unitcount started to climb.

Of course, both my systems are using ATI Radeon cards - (My Athlon has a 9700pro and the Macbook Pro uses an underclocked X1600) - maybe its harsher on nVidia hardware? anybody able to comment from their experiences?

My impression was that for SupCom, CPU mattered far more than graphics grunt did.

Does anyone else think console gaming sucks? Jan. 12th, 2007 @ 03:16 pm
I play a ton of PC games but have mostly stayed away from the consoles except the really old school ones.

Recently I was in Best Buy and tried a demo of the new Capcom game Lost Planet for the Xbox 360. After playing this I have no idea how people have fun playing the new console games. The controls were terrible. Instead of a mouse you use the anolog stick to look around and it was like going in slow motion.

I'm really not impressed with any of the new "next gen" consoles. Consoles are only for people too poor or computer illiterate to get into PC gaming.

Right now I have a AMD XP 3000 processor and I'm looking to upgrade to a new motherboard so I can get a Nvidia 76000 GS (which is on sale for $100)
The motherboard I'm looking at is around 110.
Is this wise?

This game has been absorbing a great deal of my time as of late, and, to boot, has been destroying my wrist-bones. In part, though, this is the fault of my joystick.

It's remarkable to dust off a really old game, only to find that it's not as good as you remember...but better. Much, much better.
